The beauty of a jewel is determined by its brilliance, fire and lustre.
Moissanite outperforms diamond in every respect, and even better, it’s a fraction of the price.
Moissanite... The Most Beautiful Jewel in the World
Brilliance, fire and lustre are important characteristics that determine a jewel's physical properties.
The table below compares the physical properties of Moissanite and four of the most popular natural jewels.
Source of Information: GIA Handbook of Gem Identification
Brilliance is the ability of a jewel to reflect light, which is measured
by the refractive index. Moissanite has an RI of 2.65 - 2.69 compared
with diamond's RI of 2.4. When people see your ring for the first time,
it’s the sparkle that they notice first. That’s the brilliance. The more
your stone sparkles, the more beautiful it is.
Moissanite has 2.5 times the fire of a diamond. Fire is when light
disperses into flashes of colours through the stone. It’s like little
rainbows coming off your jewel and that’s what brings a stone to life.
Lustre or scintillation is the flashes of light or shine you see when a
jewel moves in the light. Moissanite's lustre rating of 20.4% is greater
than a diamond's rating of 17.2%.
Hardness, or resistance to scratching, and toughness, or resistance to
chipping or cleaving, determines the durability of a jewel. With a
hardness of 9.25 Mohs, Moissanite is extremely resistant to scratching
and chipping and it makes Moissanite one of the most durable jewels in
The Most Beautiful Jewel
Moissanite outperforms sapphires, rubies and diamonds in all these qualities. Moissanite has more brilliance, fire and scintillation than a diamond.
This is what makes Moissanite, the Most Beautiful jewel in the world!
