The Cushion Cut

Date Added: October 21, 2016

The Cushion Cut – timeless & elegant.

This week we spotlight the very lovely Cushion cut.

A cushion cut can be either square or rectangular.  It has soft corners, just like a cushion on your couch hence the name.  In the world of diamonds, the square cushion cut is more coveted in the world of diamonds than rectangular cushion.  Forever One and SUPERNOVA Moissanite offer a beautiful square cushion.

The cushion cut was one of the most popular diamond antique cuts which was referred to as the Old Mine Cut.  In the early 2000’s the cushion cut once again rose to prominence, after the release of similar cut by Tiffany & Co called Lucida.

We at Moi Moi love the Cushion Cut. It has so much brilliance and fire and the shape is very pretty.   The cushion cut has just as much sparkle as the ever popular Round Brilliant cut yet is just a little bit different.  It is a cut which is flattering to most hands.  It’s no surprise that brides today are attracted to the cushion cut for its timeless elegance and brilliance - perfect for an engagement ring!

Asscher Cuts in Moissanite

Date Added: September 20, 2016

We are very excited to read about Pippa Middleton’s engagement and more so, we can’t help taking our eyes off her beautiful Asscher cut engagement ring.

Unlike most cuts that describe the physical shape of the stone, like Round Brilliant, Cushion, Oval or Square (Princess cut), Asscher cut gained its name by Joseph Asscher, the most prodigious diamond expert in mid-19th century. The Asscher cut is a step cut and is more than just a square emerald cut- it was designed to improve the brilliance and fire of emerald cuts.

The unique faceted step cuts gives it a vintage and art deco look to a ring. It also creates a mesmerizing almost bottomless captivating effect without compromising the sparkles that we all love in a fine gem.

MoiMoi’s Supernova Asscher cut has 46 facets and comes in a wide-ranging sizes from 5.5mm (1.04 ct diamond equivalent) to 10.0mm (5.30 ct diamond equivalent).  We can also custom-cut on request for larger sizes.

Moi Moi Launches SUPERNOVA Moissanite | Moi Moi Fine Jewellery

Date Added: September 6, 2016

Moi Moi Fine Jewellery has been pioneering Moissanite in Australia for over a decade, and today, the Sydney-based company led by Founders and
designing sister duo - Lauren Chang Sommer and Alana Chang Weirick, has launched  the next generation Moissanite, SUPERNOVA Moissanite, in Australia.

SUPERNOVA Moissanite is a global brand of Moissanite gemstones, made and distributed by Moissanite International, which is also the brainchild of the Moi Moi sisters and their father Stephen Chang.

Moissanite International is a separate company that sells loose Moissanite gemstones through international distributors.

Moissanite is the best thing to happen to the fine jewellery industry this century. SUPERNOVA Moissanite possesses more brilliance, fire and lustre than any other jewel, including diamond.
Due to its unrivalled beauty and incredible value making it the best alternative to diamond, For instance, a one carat gem retails for $600 and is 95% cheaper than a diamond of similar grade.

SUPERNOVA Moissanite offers the largest range of colourless Moissanite in the world. Ranging in sizes from 0.005 carats to 10 carats, SUPERNOVA Moissanite will be available in Round,
Cushion, Oval, Pear, Asscher, Square, Emerald, Heart, Marquise and Baguettes.

Moissanite has grown to become one of the hottest trends, creating high demand across the globe for the savvier consumers. Moissanite lasts a lifetime and is guaranteed to
never change appearance, making it ideal for use in engagement rings, eternity rings, and wedding bands.

SUPERNOVA Moissanite is integrally superior to diamonds in brilliance, fire and lustre, with the added bonus of being eco-friendly and completely conflict-free, unlike most other mined jewels.

Moissanite has a fascinating history; discovered in a meteorite crater by French Nobel Prize-winner Dr. Henri Moissan, Moissanite (also known as Silicon Carbide) in its
natural form is too rare for use in jewellery. However, one century later, through a combination of science, technology, and master gem cutting, created Moissanite became
available for fine jewellery usage. Moissanite has always been a near-colourless jewel with warm tones, and now with SUPERNOVA Moissanite,
the quality has reached the coveted colourless white that consumers demand.

When you wear a SUPERNOVA Moissanite, you are wearing the most beautiful jewel
in the world. We hope that with SUPERNOVA, more and more people will enjoy the brilliance of Moissanite.

Father's Day

Date Added: September 1, 2016

Make Father’s Day Special with Moi Moi

With Father’s Day fast approaching, the race is on to find a gift that shows how much you care.

Forget socks, jocks and handkerchiefs; if you are searching for a gift that will last a lifetime, jewellery is an excellent choice. A simple yet elegant ring is timeless and sure to be appreciated by snappy dressers and the casual dad alike.

Father’s Day is just around the corner.

When choosing a ring, there are many factors to consider – from the style and metal type, through to embellishments and sizing.

In terms of metal, there are now a broad range of options available beyond the traditional silver or gold. White or yellow gold in 9K or 18K are classic choices that never date, while platinum delivers a luxurious, white-grey take on traditional sterling silver.

White and yellow gold bands are timeless.

There are also some styles available that merge a variety of metals – for example, rings that feature stripes of white, yellow and rose gold. White gold and platinum also deliver a unique look; two slightly different silver tones deliver subtle contrast.

A variety of metals can be used to create contrast.

For those in search of style and durability at a more affordable price, titanium is an excellent choice. Similar to sterling silver and platinum in appearance, it wears well and appeals to a wide variety of tastes.

A classic titanium ring is a classy yet affordable option.

Beyond the type of metal, bands also come in both wider and slimmer designs. There is also the option of different finishes and embellishments. Bands can be brushed or polished to deliver a matte finish or high shine, while embellishments range from minimalist detailing through to intricate patterns.

At Moi Moi Fine Jewellery, we stock a wide range of classy men’s rings. Simple yet stylish, our designs are timeless and created to last for many years to come.

With more than a thousand designs in our collection, there is a ring to suit every taste. We custom fit all rings to ensure the perfect fit, and we can even customise individual pieces if you are in search of something unique. who we recommend as a wedding dress designer; so where should a ‘bride to be’ begin?

To make things a little easier we’ve brought together a list of Australia’s finest wedding dress designers.
From the luxurious laces of Anna Campbell to the minimalist glam of Johanna Johnson, the Australian bridal design scene has something for everyone.
We’ve got the down low on who to look to for creativity and inspiration for that all-important dress.
Read on to see who’s who of our picks, of Australian talent in wedding design!

J’Aton Couture has been creating unique gowns from Prahran, Melbourne since 1995. A favourite among Australian celebrities (think Rebecca Judd’s glorious gown),
prize-winning duo Jacob Luppino and Anthony Pittorino met at a Melbourne fashion college in 1989. It hasn’t always been easy going though; the pair worked for 15 years in the suburbs of Melbourne before they became a household name in the bridal fashion world. J’Aton Couture has a reputation for attention to detail; think sexy sheer lace, hand beading and intricate details.
As the boys themselves say, "We dress woman through the eyes of Men”.
Embodying a unified vision of design stemming from an insatiable desire to create, the J’Aton signature style is a lavish juxtaposition between contrasting elements- the avant- garde and the classic;
the opulent and the raw; the masculine and the feminine; the past and the present.

What do you love about designing wedding gowns?

Making a brides dreams come true on their special day is what I truly love. It's such a privilege to be able to join them on their journey towards their happily ever after.
Every bride is different and l love to listen to their story to understand their wedding ideas and aspirations. With this in mind I work collaboratively with each and every bride to design their own unique gown.

What is your trademark look?

My own design collection definitely has a signature look. Recently described by Luxury Weddings as the couture queen of slinky bridal gowns, my gowns are designed to highlight and flatter a woman's natural silhouette. The backs of my gowns are just as important as the front and low feature backs are a theme throughout. This combined with exquisite detailing, beading and only the finest laces and fabrics make a gown from Lilli Marcs truly unique.

What is your inspiration when designing wedding gowns?

Inspiration can come from many different areas; from the materials I work with such as new fabrics, laces and beading to the desire to help a bride’s hopes and aspirations for their perfect day come true. I love the hollywood screen legends such as Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly, their timeless style and simple elegance is definitely echoed in my design collection. The Gatsby inspired 1920's is also a source of inspiration. My gowns often feature beautiful beading from fully encrusted gowns to beaded shoulder accents, embellished gowns really can make you feel like Hollywood royalty.
