Hope Diamond

Date Added: 30/01/2013
In October last year my husband and I did a fantastic road-trip through the east and south of America. Whilst in Washington, I just had to go to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History to see the legendary Hope Diamond. For you who have not heard about the Hope Diamond before, it is one of the largest and most famous pieces of Jewellery that has ever existed. It’s also very beautiful.

The Diamond is believed to have existed for over a billion years. Hope Diamond originally come from India and has been in ownership of some of histories most famous people. For example King Louis XIV a French king in the 1600s was one of the earliest traceable owners.

Today the Diamond lies in the Smithsonian museum in Washington, the centre Diamond is 45.52 carats. Its colour is a very distinctive deep dark blue. It is surrounded by 16 white diamonds. The chain is in Platinum and has not less than 46 additional white diamonds. The value of the hope diamond has been set to $200-$250 million. This piece of Jewellery is really from out of this world and it is even more spectacular in real life. So if you ever go to Washington make sure to give the hope diamond a visit.
